Rock Band vs Call of Duty
I would like to start this entry by saying that my brother is awesome!!! (He will probably save this entry on a file somewhere). Without a generous giving on his part I would not have Rock Band 2 right now. Mainly due to reasons listed in the last entry. I have to even admit that I totally underestimated the potential of this game. I thought that Guitar Hero was all that there was, but NO. This is just as good and better in some ways. So thanks Nate.
Now that I have this new game which requires four people to fully enjoy the experience, I needed some people to help me to break it in. “Ring Ring…Hey I just got this game called Rock Band, it has drums, guitars, and even a microphone, and I wondered if you would like to come over and play a few songs on it, Becky may even make some cookies, yum!” Now enter my in-laws. Don’t take this the wrong way, my in-laws are cool. Even if some of them refer to my seniority a lot. So all of us get together and we play the game like there is no tomorrow. As a matter of fact we played into tomorrow, some time up to midnight, I was going to be up anyway. Just so happens that one of my three brothers in law has recently bought his own Xbox 360 and is playing Call of Duty 3 and 4. So after our first successful gathering we set up a second gathering, go to his house, raid his fridge, and try his games out a while. Did the Rock Band scenario end here…NO. I actually brought the entire drum set, 2 guitars and microphone with me…he he he. Turns out the wives don’t really dig the whole bloody combat thing and wanted to play Rock Band and Guitar Hero. Hey I am good either way.
So we have really started to get things set up now. Everyone has their favorite part in the game. I like to play lead guitar, or drums, or bass, or anything but sing. Cold day in Hell when I sing. Becky likes the drums or guitars and is (as much as I hate to admit it) better at the drums than I. She even sings some. Alison does it all with no shyness. Melanie does mainly bass guitar and some drums, and she is even better at the drums than I am (yea I suck at the drums). Jeremiah is also holding nothing back on the game, even singing. You haven’t lived until you hear Crazy Train in a country accent. Ben also takes his turn at everything. I will have to say that he is the crowd favorite for singing, though. His version of Pretty Fly for a White Guy is priceless. This is the only time I like to hear him say “give it to me baby, uh huh, uh huh.” All in all, we are pretty good, I think.
But, (ominous music here) since the girls do not like the bloody war game and the guys do there is friction over which to play first and most. Here is the usual scenario. The guys jump to procure the Xbox first game rights. Now we play Call of Duty as long as the women’s patience and gossip hold out. The latter is usually the longer. Then after many delay tactics and lies about whether we have played one game and yes one game can take 2.5 hours……really, the girls finally have had enough and force the hand to play Rock Band. Like I said, though, I am good both ways. Now there is talk of two Xboxes in the same house, separate TV’s, and disputes over which game gets the larger screen. Not to mention just who will be on babysitting patrol while everyone else plays? We can’t let the kids kill each other for the sake of Xbox, UNLESS, the game is really close.
So let me know what you think. Which should be played first? Is the two TV idea just too far out there? Will I ever sing? NO. But hey, if you have not tried either one of these games, I would recommend them both. They are both good and fun multiplayer games. I am still having trouble saying that Call of Duty is better than Halo, but I have been die hard Halo for years. Not to mention I seem to kill my own teammates a lot in this game, sorry Tim and Jeremiah.
